Many people have a closet or shelf full of old electronics. You might be wondering what you can do with that e-scrap to free up some space. The first thing to realize is that you should never throw electronic waste into the trash—even small things like batteries or phones. This is because there are some toxic chemicals in these products that can be damaging to our environment. Not only that, but e-waste tends to have valuable metals in them that can be recycled.
You have two options when you want to get rid of these unwanted electronics without just throwing them away. The first option is to pass them on to a friend or family member that may get some use from them. You can even donate the items to charity if you can’t find someone in your circle that wants them. Another option, particularly if the item no longer works, is to recycle them. Electronic recycling works a lot like recycling bottles, cans, or newspapers. You can find recycling bins in front of many larger electronics stores, such as Best Buy, making it easier and safer to get rid of your e-waste. There are also organizations that will buy your unwanted e-scrap from you, which means not only do you get rid of the clutter, but you also earn a little bit of money at the same time.
