Did you know that there are currently more cell phones than people on earth? That means there is a lot of e-waste out there that needs to be properly scraped to ensure that our old, unwanted electronics aren’t damaging the environment around us. The key to doing that is through safe electronic recycling.
Recycle Your Electronics – Don’t simply throw away your unwanted electronics. Instead, recycle it. Electronic waste is the fastest-growing waste stream globally. That is because only about 20% of it is recycled. The remainder is disposed of in landfills. This is risky because most electronic components contain toxic elements such as lead, mercury, chloride, polyvinyl chloride, and beryllium, which can leach into the ground and harm humans and the environment. You could, however, rely on skip hire sydney for most of the other components or household waste. However, the same may not be true for e-waste.
Data Destruction Is a Must – Before you recycle or donate your unwanted electronics, be sure to erase all of the data from the device. This is more than just deleting files; you will want to “wipe” the entire hard drive. By erasing your data, you avoid others from accessing your information.
Don’t Trash Your Batteries – Never throw nickel-cadmium batteries into the garbage. These items are made from poisonous materials that can be very harmful to the environment. That means they also need to be recycled. Several places, including Best Buy and Firestone Tires, offer free disposal of household or car batteries.
